Earth Day

I know that this is usually about hockey, and I will get there at some point, but first I want to comment on Earth Day, and Take your child to work day... Interesting that they are on the same day this year...

First, Earth Day - I am all for keeping a healthy environment. I love the outdoors, whether it is hiking on the beach, through the forests or just having parks for recreation. The idea of awareness was the original idea behind Earth Day, but what has it become? I believe that in the many parts of the world, we have an awareness of making our lives and environment sustainable. At this point however, we can not do this once a year on Earth Day, we need to choose to live a healthy life style and enjoy a clean world.

Second, Child to work - This use to be about getting young teens into the work place so that they could understand their options, and what it would take to get into a variety of careers. The simple fact is that this was first started so that young ladies could believe that they too had the chance to go into fields normally thought of at the time as men's work. Today this event has become more of a take your grade schooler to work and let them play. Many companies setup special events, more like an open house, then simply letting teens see what it takes to be a CEO, or Desk Clerk.

Now Hockey... hasn't the NHL playoffs been something... tons of OT games, and of course that means 1 goal tense games. The WHL Conference Finals have also been exciting, with Vancouver leading TC (2-1) and Calgary taking a big lead over Brandon (3-1). Also, the WHL draft is coming up quickly, and Portland will look to add some good young talent to the player list.

Enjoy the weather, do something to help clean up our world, and hug a kid today, telling them they can be anything they want when they grow up.
