Could anyone have imagined a series where the road team couldn't lose? Last night was chapter 15 in the regular season and playoffs between the Chiefs and the Hawks. The home team went 1-14 this year... 0-7 in the playoffs. Simply stated, wow. And what could be better then your team winning a game 7 on the road? Oh yeah, winning game 7 on the road in OT... yeah that's even better. This is one of the many reasons why nothing is better then playoff hockey.
Last night Portland started out slowly, and got into a huge hole... but this team and the never out of it attitude was in full bloom last night as Portland continued to grind and work to get back into the game and eventually pull off the win. Last night was one of those games where it was a full team effort and that depth paid off in the end. Portland scored the gritty way time and time again by working in the crease. Spokane got its scoring from three of there four stars, Wahl, Beach and Johnson. Portland got goals from 3 lines last night, with Nino, Boychuck, Walker, Johansen and Rattie scoring. That is balance... something that should help Portland in the next round. This team is ready to move on and should have a favorable match up with Vancouver.
Speaking of Vancouver... Portland lost the first two games with Giants, but evened the season series up with the Giants by winning the last two games. Each team won and lost a game at home, so we shouldn't see the road team going 7-0 in this series. For now, celebrate the win, and get ready for the MC this weekend... Portland fans should fill the MC this weekend for some good playoff hockey.
